1 pkg hot or sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
1 (32 oz) pkg Velveeta cheese, cubed
1 (16 oz) jar chunky salsa
1 tbsp ground fennel
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp ground anise
1/4 tsp ground basil

Crumble and brown meat; drain. Melt cheese with salsa and spices, stir in cooked sausage and pour into a crock pot and then continue to heat until hot. Serve with bread pieces for dipping.
