6 lbs spareribs, cut into serving size pieces
3 quarts water
2 whole cloves
1 medium onion
1 tsp each salt, dried oregano leaves, marjoram, rosemary and thyme
1/4 cup dry red wine
1/3 cup ketchup
1 tbsp soy sauce
1/4 tsp ginger
2 tbsp honey
1 clove garlic, minced

In the morning, prepare ribs by boiling them in a deep kettle. Inserve cloves in onion and add to kettle along with the spices. Bring mixture to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, just until ribs are tender, about 50 minutes. Drain and place ribs in a shallow pan.

Combine remaining ingredients and pour over ribs and cover with foil. Refrigerate until ready to grill.

Prepare grill for medium coals and adjust rack about 4 inches from coals. Remove ribs from sauce, reserving sauce for basting, and grill about 10 minutes, turn and grill, basting with sauce, another 10 minutes or until well done. Boil remaining sauce and serve with ribs.
