1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup molasses
2 tsp baking soda
1 cup boiling water
2 1/2 cups flour
2 eggs

Mix the sugar, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves together in a bowl. Add the vegetable oil and the molasses, stirring until well blended. Mix the baking soda into the boiling water and immediately stir into the mixture. Add the flour gradually, mixing well after each addition. Mix in the beaten eggs. Pour into a greased 9 x 13 baking pan and bake at 350 for 40 minutes or tested done. Let cool completely, Cut and serve. Dust with powder sugar or serve with whipped cream or a lemon sauce.
