Category: Sauces - BBQ
Prep Time:       Cook Time:       Total Time:

3 tablespoons Butter
1 medium Red Onion, diced
6 Cloves of Garlic, peeled, smashed & minced
1 cup Makers Mark Bourbon (Kentucky Bourbon)
1 cup Honey
1 bottle Heinz Ketchup
1 teaspoon Ginger, grated
1 teaspoon Dry Mustard
1 tablespoon fresh Sweet Basil, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh Parsley, chopped
2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 teaspoon fresh coarsely ground Black Pepper

In a deep cast iron skillet melt the butter
Saute the onion for 2 minutes; add garlic.

Just as the onions and garlic start to brown add all the remaining ingredients. Bring all this to a boil and simmer stirring occasionally until it begins to thicken. About 15 to 20 minutes.

Remove from heat and let cool. Pour into a jar with a lid and store in refrigerator
until ready to use.

Notes: Makers Mark Honey BBQ Sauce is a spicey, sweet sticky mess of goodness
that all of your party guests will love.
As with all “sugar-based” sauces, apply it only in the last fifteen minutes of
cooking. The sugar in the honey will burn if cooked on high heat resulting in
that hard black candy shell that is the mark of an amateur.

You can start the meat with a spicy rub and finish off with this Bourbon honey sauce.
It will keep well for weeks if refrigerated so you can make it a day or two in advance.

Let the sauce warm to at least room temp before slathering it all over the cooking meat.

Note - the alcohol in the bourbon cooks off when you boil the Markers Mark
Honey BBQ Sauce. Just the sweet, smokey flavor is left.
