  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill or parsley
  • hot cooked noodles

Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring, for 3-4 minutes or until it is softened.

Add the mushrooms to the skillet and cook until lightly browned, about 5 minutes.

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, stirring and breaking up the meat, for about 5 minutes or until no longer pink.

Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle the flour over all and stir for 1 minute to incorporate.

Stir in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let cook until thickened, about 3 minutes.

When the sauce has thickened, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the sour cream until mixed.

Return the pan to the heat and stir and cook just long enough to heat the sour cream. Do not let it simmer. This should only take about 30-45 seconds.

Sprinkle the hamburger stroganoff with dill or parsley and serve immediately over hot cooked noodles.
