1 egg
1⁄4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup milk
1 cup + 2 Tbsp flour
1⁄4 tsp garlic powder
1⁄2 tsp salt
1⁄2 tsp pepper
1 tsp baking powder
2 large sweet onions, sliced into rings
1⁄2 cup flour (for coating onions before batter)
oil (for frying)


1. Gather all ingredients.
2. Soak onion rings in a bowl of ice water for 1 hour; drain and pat dry with paper towels.
3. Heat oil 375*
4. Mix egg, oil, and milk on low speed of mixer for 1 minute.
5. Add dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
6. Coat onions in flour.
7. Dip in batter.
8. Fry in batches, in hot oil until desired shade of brown. When one side is golden turn to the other side.
9. Drain on paper towels.
