I was at work one day wondering what I was gonna throw on the grill during the week end. I thought about braats (I use two "a's" to distinguish them from my kids when they were much younger). But they're a little boring, so I wondered if I could stuff them somehow. My mother's response was " but aren't braats already stuffed?" No, Mom, not like this...
INGREDIENTS
1 Pack Original Brats (brand don't matter)
1 Large Shallot, chopped
6 Cloves Garlic, punished
1/4 Medium Red Onion, chopped
1/8 Tsp Chipotle Dust (we make our own... store bought will work)
1/4 Green Bell Pepper, chopped
Pinch Salt and Pepper to taste
1 Pack Thick Bacon
1/2 Cup Seasoned Italian Breadcrumbs
1/4 Cup Garlic Infused Olive Oil (we make our own...store bought works)
10 Toothpicks
1 Pack Hot Dog Buns
DIRECTIONS
1. Scoop out a "canoe" in each Braat.
2. Place next 7 ingredients in a blender, food processor, Whopper Chopper, whatever. Mix well until WELL blended.
3. In a small bowl, mix infused olive oil and breadcrumbs until well blended.
4. Add mixture from Whopper Chopper to small bowl mixture and blend (I use my fingers to blend...so sexy!)
5. Add mixture to scooped out brats. Press and pack those suckers FULL!
6. Wrap each Braat in a slice and a half of Bacon...overlapping as necessary. Use a toothpick to secure each end.
7. Toss the Braats on a medium heat grill for about 20 minutes...turning every 5 minutes or so (don't wanna let the bacon burn from being on one side too long).
8. We toast hot dog buns on the grill during the last 5 minutes or so of grilling. Makes em nice and crunchy...we love em that way!
9. Remove Braats and buns from grill and combine. Make sure you pull out the toothpicks!
The scooped out Braat meat makes a couple excellent breakfast sausage patties so don't toss it out!
This makes five Braats because that's how many is in the package (stupid number cuz you'll have left over buns).
Give these a try and lemme know what ya think.
