Peppermint Patties

3/4 c sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 teas peppermint extract
4 cups powdered sugar
3 c chocolate chips*
2 teaspoon crisco shortening

In a large bowl,
combine condensed milk and peppermint.
Beat in enough powdered sugar, a little at a time, for form a stiff dough that is no longer sticky.
Form into 1" balls and place on waxed paper and flatten with fingers to form patties.
Let the patties dry at room temperature two hours, turning once.
In a saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate with shortening, stirring often.
Remove from heat.
Dip patties, one at a time,into chocolate by laying them on the tines of a fork and lowering into the chocolate. Let cool on waxed paper until set.

*Can use dark chocolate, too.
