Before the frozen and canned stuff, this is what our grandmothers did to make whipped cream.

2 cups heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup sugar, Splenda, or Stevia
1 tsp vanilla extract

Whip very cold cream in an electric mixer until peaks form. Add the vanilla; whip 30 seconds. Add the sugar; whip 30 seconds more or until the peaks are stiff.

Note: This works equally well with the non-sugar sweeteners.
