This is a recipe I found in my Gramma's recipe box. It's on an old newspaper clipping.

1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
6 eggs
3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
Butter Sauce (recipe follows)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time. Add remaining ingredients and blend on low speed until moistened. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed, turning bowl while beating. Pour batter into a greased Bundt pan and bake for 60 to 65 minutes. To top with butter sauce, pierce the top of the cake with a fork. Pour in the butter sauce. Cool completely before removing cake from pan.

Butter Sauce

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp rum

Pour sugar, water, and butter into a saucepan and heat until the butter is melted. Do not boil! Stir in the rum.
