- 6 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 1/4 cup butter-flavored shortening
Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Add the shortening and cut it in with a pastry blender or two forks, mixing until it resembles coarse crumbs. Store the all-purpose biscuit mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 month. Variations: Use half all-purpose flour and half whole wheat for a healthier mix Or, add 1/2 cup dry buttermilk powder to the basic mix.
