Makes 10 pints

1 gallon sliced cucumbers
8 small onions, sliced
2 green peppers, chopped fine
1/2 cup salt
5 cups sugar
5 cups vinegar
1 1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp ground cloves
2 Tbsp mustard seeds
1 tsp celery seeds

Mix salt with vegetables and cover with ice. Let stand 3 hours. Drain thoroughly but do not rinse. Add sugar, vinegar, turmeric, ground cloves, mustard seeds, celery seeds. Let come to a boil, but do not boil. Seal in jars.
