Makes 4 servings.

1 loaf unsliced day-old bread
1 c. coarsely chopped candy bar of choice
3 c. whole milk
1 c. whipping cream
2 c. brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. butter, melted
3 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350F. Butter a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
Tear bread onto small chunk; sprinkle with candy bar pieces.
Spoon bread mixture into baking dish; set on top of oven to dry out.
In a large bowl, combine milk, cream, 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, butter, eggs, cinnamon and vanilla. Blend well.
Pour milk mixture over bread and candy in baking dish.
Press down gently with a large spoon to enable bread to soak up egg mixture.
Let stand for 30 minutes; sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar.
Bake at 350F for 1 hour, until golden brown and nearly set.
